Trump defends Musk and says Doge will look at military spending

Trump supports Musk and mentions that Dogecoin will consider military expenditure. 15 hours prior. Michael Wendling. BBC News • @mwendling. President Trump has supported Elon Musk’s initiative to close parts of the US government in light of legal hurdles, issues with transparency, and inquiries about conflicts of interest. “He has nothing to gain from this.” “I genuinely question how he manages to dedicate time to it,” Trump remarked on Sunday. Democrats have claimed that Musk is gaining personally from certain alterations that the Trump administration is attempting to implement, including the suggested elimination of the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Trump mentioned that Musk’s unofficial Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) would likely review expenditures in the military and the Department of Education, perhaps within the next “24 hours.” “Let’s investigate the military,” he commented. “We will uncover billions, potentially hundreds of billions, in fraudulent activities and misuse, which is why the people chose me for this role.” On Sunday, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth expressed his approval on Fox News about Doge scrutinizing military expenditures. “When we allocate funds, we should understand their destination and purpose, which has not been the case at the defense department,” he stated. Trump’s remarks regarding Musk and Doge were made during an interview with Fox News reporter Bret Baier prior to the Super Bowl. In the same interview, the president expressed dissatisfaction with Mexico and Canada’s efforts regarding illegal drugs and border issues. He reiterated his serious stance on proposing that Canada become the 51st U.S. state, a notion that is largely rejected by Canadians.
