Tierney signs pre-contract agreement to re-join Celtic from Arsenal

Celtic has announced that Kieran Tierney will make his return to the club in July 2025. There had been speculation about his potential return to Celtic during the January transfer window. Although it didn’t happen as expected, manager Brendan Rodgers stated last month that a pre-agreement was established. In their most recent interim financial report released on Monday, Celtic announced that the full-back has officially signed a pre-contract agreement and is set to return in July. The report also noted, “In the January transfer window, we permanently registered Jota and temporarily registered Jeffrey Schlupp.” Furthermore, it mentioned that we extended Kasper Schmeichel’s contract and entered a pre-contract agreement for Kieran Tierney to rejoin Celtic in July 2025. We have released the registrations of Kyogo Furuhashi and Alexander Bernabei, while we loaned out Luis Palma, Odin Holm, and Stephen Welsh. A picture shows Brendan Rodgers and Kieran Tierney together during Rodgers’ initial time with Celtic in 2017. Tierney progressed through the Celtic academy and made 170 appearances for the team before moving to Arsenal in a £25 million transfer in 2017. Since then, he has played 129 matches for the Gunners in all competitions, netting five goals and providing 13 assists. Celtic was interested in acquiring Tierney during the January transfer window. Sky Sports News mentioned that Celtic is working to secure a loan deal for the Arsenal defender during the January transfer window, aiming to finalize the agreement by summer. Arsenal decided to retain Tierney at the Emirates Stadium until the conclusion of the 2024/25 season. The 27-year-old defender has participated in five matches for the Gunners this season, with only one being a start during the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace. Meanwhile, the Hoops permitted Alex Valle to end his loan from Barcelona early to join Como in Serie A, while Jeffrey Schlupp moved from Palace to provide additional support at left-back.
