Palace beat Doncaster to set up FA Cup meeting with Millwall

Goals from Daniel Munoz and Justin Devenny propelled Crystal Palace into the FA Cup fifth round with a 2-0 victory over Doncaster. The Eagles successfully avoided a potential upset at the Eco-Power Stadium, setting up a home match against Millwall, even while facing difficulties in creating chances against a well-disciplined Rovers team that didn’t capitalize on their opportunities. Munoz, the Colombian wing-back, eventually broke the deadlock with a well-executed free-kick, followed by Northern Ireland’s Devenny who secured the win early in the second half. Rovers initially threatened with a shot on goal after James Maxwell and Luke Molyneux worked well down the left, leading to Billy Sharp assisting Ethan Ennis, whose weak shot from the edge of the box was easily saved by Matt Turner. In the 31st minute, Palace seized their first significant opportunity. Daichi Kamada executed a smart low free-kick aimed at Jean-Philippe Mateta, whose attempt hit the post, setting up a simple tap-in for Munoz. Rovers maintained their competitiveness with Molyneux and Rob Street linking up to assist Sharp, whose shot was saved by Turner. Oliver Glasner substituted in Ben Chilwell at halftime for his debut with Palace, marking the England full-back’s first play since coming off the bench for Chelsea in a Carabao Cup match against Barrow in September. Ben Chilwell came off the bench to make his debut for Crystal Palace against Doncaster in the FA Cup. Nevertheless, as the League Two promotion contenders seemed to find their rhythm, Palace initiated a quick counter-attack in the 55th minute, with Hughes delivering a smart pass over the defense that enabled Devenny to score a second goal. Doncaster had a chance to reduce the deficit on the hour, but Molyneux’s shot went directly at Turner after a clever setup by Sharp, ultimately leading to their exit from the competition.
