'Uncomfortable' Norrie admits to nerves after battling win over qualifier

Cameron Norrie acknowledged feeling nervous before his match after battling into the last 16 of the Delray Beach Open with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over American qualifier Zachary Svajda. Norrie, who claimed the Florida tournament title in 2022, has faced challenges on hard courts this season but managed to secure a much-needed win amidst sweltering temperatures nearing 30 degrees. The British No 2 experienced a back-and-forth with four serve breaks in the first six games against Svajda, ultimately breaking again in the 12th game to win the set. Although Svajda fought back to recover an early break in the second set, Norrie responded effectively to prevent a third-set showdown, setting up a last-16 match against either Gabriel Diallo or French ninth seed Arthur Rinderknech. “I’m very satisfied,” Norrie expressed during his post-match interview, adding, “It’s very uncomfortable out here.” The Florida heat is starting to affect me a bit.. “It was my first outdoor match in quite some time, and I felt quite anxious beforehand. Although my footwork wasn’t great, I was very pleased with how I completed both sets, playing at my best level, and that was what truly mattered.
