The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has again issued a directive requiring federal employees to account for their work, reinforcing efforts by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk to reduce waste in government operations.

According to reports, a second email was sent this week from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) with the subject line, “What did you do last week? Part II.”

The Associated Press noted that the email’s distribution method differed from initial plans, as it was expected to come from individual agencies rather than OPM.

Unlike the first email, this latest directive reportedly requires employees to submit five bullet points each week summarizing their accomplishments.

Multiple sources indicate that responses must be submitted by Mondays at 11:59 p.m. EST.

A key difference in the latest email, as reported by CBS News, was an instruction prohibiting employees from including classified or sensitive information in their responses.

Those whose work is classified were allegedly instructed to respond with the statement, “All of my activities are sensitive.”

As news of the email spread, Elon Musk addressed the matter on X in response to a claim that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had directed Department of Defense staff to comply with the reporting requirement.

“The President has made it clear that this is mandatory for the executive branch,” Musk wrote.

“Anyone working on classified or other sensitive matters is still required to respond if they receive the email, but can simply reply that their work is sensitive.”

The directive was also discussed during President Trump’s first full Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

When asked about the initial email, Musk characterized it as a basic check-in rather than a formal evaluation.

“I think that email was perhaps interpreted as a performance review, but actually it was a pulse check review. Do you have a pulse?” Musk said.

“And if you have a pulse and two neurons, you could reply to an email.”

President Trump also defended the requirement while meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in the Oval Office.

He emphasized that compliance is expected and warned that those who fail to respond could face termination.
