CNN’s Kailan Collins’ Embarrassing Week Goes From Bad to Worse with New Nickname [WATCH]

CNN anchor and White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins is facing criticism from social media users following her reporting on President Donald Trump.

Collins has been accused by some of acting as a “female Jim Acosta” due to her approach in covering the administration.

On Friday, Collins posted a video on CNN’s official social media accounts highlighting what she described as an unusual choice of artwork outside the Oval Office.

“Not only have we never had a U.S. president with a mugshot—I’m not sure we’ve ever had a mugshot hanging outside of the Oval Office before,” Collins said in the video.

The framed image she referenced was Trump’s mugshot from his August 2023 booking at the Fulton County Jail in Georgia, following an indictment related to his alleged efforts to challenge the 2020 election results.

The mugshot, originally featured on the front page of The New York Post, now hangs in a gold frame in the Outer Oval, just outside the president’s office.

Collins noted that she first spotted the decoration after photos were released of Trump’s meeting with India’s Prime Minister.

Trump supporters quickly responded to Collins’ video, with some mocking her for focusing on the Oval Office décor rather than more pressing news.

“Kaitlan Collins of CNN is mad that President Trump is proudly presenting his mugshot outside the Oval Office,” one social media user wrote.

“He keeps it on prominent display in order to remind people of lawfare Democrats engaged in against him to cheat in the election. Collins can’t handle facing reality.”

Another user questioned her priorities: “With all that is going on WORLDWIDE, do you not have something other than the decor of the Oval Office to report on?”

Others compared Collins to former CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta, who was known for his contentious exchanges with Trump. “Here we go. The only reason Collins is in the press room is because she is nothing more than Jim Acosta 2.0,” one comment read.

Collins also received criticism over her questions during a recent White House press briefing with Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt.

Collins had asked about the president’s preconditions for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

One commenter wrote, “Ahhh… you are the female or stand-in for the role of Jim Acosta, no? Sure looks like you are reading from the same character script as him. SMH…”

Despite the backlash, some supported Collins, praising her for pressing the administration. “Kaitlan, thank you for your brave pursuit of the truth by asking the hard questions and saying what others think but are hesitant to ask,” one supporter wrote.

Earlier in the week, Collins was involved in a tense moment with Trump during a signing event for a measure increasing U.S. tariffs.

“Mr. President, you won the White House in part because of high inflation. If your tariffs make prices go up—” Collins began before Trump interrupted.

“Excuse me. We haven’t asked you to speak yet, please,” Trump responded.

Later, Collins was able to ask whether Americans would feel the impact of the tariffs on everyday purchases.

“We’ll see what happens. Nobody really knows what is going to happen,” Trump replied.

When Collins asked if Trump trusted Putin, he shifted the focus to his predecessor.

“This should have been done by Biden years ago. This should have never been allowed to happen,” Trump said. “I know [Biden is] a friend of yours. He’s a friend of CNN. That’s why nobody watches CNN anymore. Because they have no credibility.”

Collins has played an increasingly prominent role at CNN, especially after Jim Acosta’s departure from the network.

Acosta, who frequently clashed with Trump during press briefings, announced his exit from CNN earlier this year.

“You may have seen some reports about me and the show,” Acosta said on-air. “And after giving all of this some careful consideration and weighing an alternative time slot CNN offered me, I’ve decided to move on.”

He ended his final broadcast with a message to viewers: “It is never a good time to bow down to a tyrant… One final message—don’t give in to the lies. Don’t give in to the fear. Hold on to the truth and to hope.”

Following his departure, Acosta launched a Substack newsletter, stating he was “going independent” and intended to “keep the conversation going” through his own platform.

Acosta’s exit comes as CNN undergoes structural changes under new CEO Mark Thompson, who is steering the network toward a more digital-based platform.
