Cal Thomas: Trump and Musk are spring cleaning the government

Although it’s somewhat premature for spring cleaning, it seems that President Trump and his loyal ally Elon Musk are undertaking such efforts. As a child, I remember my mother would search through closets, the attic, and the basement every spring to find clothes and other belongings that could be thrown away or donated. At times, letting go of items, particularly those imbued with sentimental significance, proved challenging. However, we generally embraced the idea of decluttering since it was viewed as superfluous and taking up valuable space that could serve other purposes. Today’s cable television features shows focused on what is termed “hoarding,” which might help illustrate my point for those who may not have personal recollections to draw from. Meanwhile, some Democrats are expressing their discontent with Musk’s and Trump’s attempts to reduce government size, echoing the sentiments of those questioning, “Who supported Musk?”—a promise Trump made during his campaign.
